Counselling Services

Individuals, Couples Families

I provide counselling to individuals, couples, and families. I have expertise in helping people with Addictions, Anxiety, Cross-cultural Issues, Depression, Family Issues, Grief and Loss, Immigration Adaptation, Life Transitions, Marriage, Mental Health Issues, Parenting, Peri-natal Depression, and Trauma.

The foundation of my practice is a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach; into which I weave elements of Acceptance, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Mindfulness, Satir, and Solutions Focused Therapies. I also apply Emotional Freedom Technique, Positive Psychology, and East-West approaches to work with my clients.

I believe a collaborative working relationship between therapist and client promises the best outcomes. Drawing from my clinical skills and experiences, I bring my openness, gentle curiosity, and expertise in a variety of evidence-based strategies of symptom management and behavioural change.

You are the sole and ultimate expert on your feelings, thoughts, expectations, wisdom, life energy, and source of changes. We come together so that we can learn and teach each other in order to facilitate and to accomplish your therapeutic goals.

Contact-Denise-about-Groups,-Presentations-or-WorkshopsEach of us has had experiences being raised in group environments, through our families, school, work, or organized activities. Experiencing group counselling and therapy provides a setting where you can share concerns and ideas.

Through observation, interaction, receiving feedback from group members, and guidance of the group counsellor(s), you will gain personal awareness and growth. Typically, a group consists of six to twelve participants working with one or two group therapists.

Some examples of group work I offer include:

  • Art Therapy for Emotion Management and Self Care Group
  • Assertiveness Communication in English and Mandarin
  • Changeways Group in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin
  • Relaxation Group
  • Self-help Group

Presentations & Workshops

Working as a mental health clinician and educator in our growing culturally diverse community in BC, I have learnt the importance of health and mental health education, prevention, and early intervention; and how efficient they are, at addressing symptoms before the symptoms become worse and health starts to decline.
